Cancer detection
Headed by Professor Jean-Louis Frossard, physician, head of the gastroenterology service, a team has found a new method for detecting liver and pancreatic cancer.
By studying the concentrations of vesicles in the bile of 50 patients, half of whom suffer from pancreatic or bile duct cancer and the other from non-malignant diseases, the researchers discovered that all of the cancer cases had a high level.
If this result is confirmed for a greater number of patients, an endoscopy to analyse these extracellular vesicles could become a routine procedure for suspected hepatobiliary or pancreatic cancer. The treatments introduced at an early stage would be more effective and help to reduce the mortality rate.
