A mobile unit

In 2017, HUG put into circulation a new medical imaging mobile unit that takes PET-CT imaging to entities that do not have the financial resources to buy this type of scanner.

Without this infrastructure, patients with serious diseases would have to travel long distances to be examined. Others suffering from cancer would not be able to benefit from optimal monitoring of their disease.

This mobile unit consists of a trailer, inside which is found a state-of-the-art PET-CT scanner, a control room, a waiting and robotised injection room, and toilets. The trailer is towed by a lorry that travels to the places where the examinations are held.

The lorry and trailer weigh 52 metric tons and measure 13.5 by 2.5 metres. Due to its particularly dense radiation shielding to meet Swiss Federal Office of Public Health standards, this lorry is the heaviest in Switzerland.
