Proactive family engagement and support in health care are essential for the resilience and health of families in Intensive Care Units (ICU). Despite many efforts, knowledge on sustainably integrating evidence-based, family-focused care is limited. Real-world evidence from randomized trials is needed to assess these interventions' impact.
The FICUS study (A multicomponent family support intervention in intensive care units: a multicenter cluster-randomized trial) evaluates a nurse-led and interprofessional delivered family support intervention in Swiss ICUs. Implementing complex interventions, such as the family support intervention is challenging, especially in multi-site trials, and specific guidance is scarce. Implementation Science provides methods to guide effective integration of new care models. The presentation will show how these methods and theories were applied in the FICUS study.
