Postgraduate training

Postgraduate education for doctors is defined according to the directives of the Swiss Medical Federation FMH (FR)

Doctors who wish to embark on postgraduate training after their medical studies can choose between 44 training programs. All specialist qualifications have some general principles in common, notably their recognition by postgraduate training establishments.

HUG employs 1,250 doctors divided between:

  • permanent managers: 67 Heads of Division and 270 Staff Physicians
  • managers on fixed-term contracts and training postschefs de clinique - titulaires ou non d'un titre FMH - et médecins internes.

Out of our allocation of 500 Residents, more than 150 posts will go to new doctors every year.

Applications (CV and if necessary, your work history) should be sent to the Head of Division of a Training Center recognized by the FMH (FR).

Admissions criteria

Residents must hold a Federal medical degree or an equivalent qualification recognized by the bilateral agreements with the European Union. Once the applications have been assessed, some exceptions may be made for foreign nationals from outside the European Union.
