The HUG has a plan to prevent falls. It includes:
- adapting and securing the surroundings (light levels, ramps, etc.)
- the use of specific auxiliary equipment (canes, walkers, armchairs)
- staff training
- awareness-raising actions for patients.
In addition, all falls are now reported. In the acute care sector, there are between 2 and 4 falls per 1000 days of hospitalization and between 7 and 10 in the geriatric and rehabilitation sectors. The incidence of falls tends to be higher among the elderly. For this reason, each patient, upon admission, now undergoes a risk assessment. Depending on the result of the latter, suitable prevention measures are proposed.
