The HUG have developed a program to promote equality and inclusion as well as to combat all forms of discrimination, sexism and violence.

The fifth value

In 2021, the HUG added a fifth value, « Equality and inclusion », to its existing relational values in order to promote diversity and inclusion within the institution.

The programme

As part of the Vision 20+5 strategic plan, and in order to materialise this new relational value at all levels of the institution, the HUG created the position of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Officer and launched a programme of the same name, which is now attached to the General Direction.

The themes

This programme aims to strenghten the anti-discrimination system and promote an inclusive and egalitarian working climate within the institution. It implements various strategies to achieve its objectives, including:

  • Embedding an inclusive culture in institutional policies
  • Combating sexist, sexual and moral harassment
  • Supporting women's professionnal careers
  • Preventing and protecting against all forms of discrimination 
  • Working for the equality and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ community

The projects

Embedding an inclusive culture from the arrival of new employees

écriture inclusiveAs part of this program, since 2022, the half-day welcome session for all new employees includes a presentation focused on the relational value of "Equality and Inclusion". A team discussion guide on the prevention of harassmentand discrimination is also provided to managers to reinforce respectful behavior intheir teams.

Commitment against discrimination and harassment

coeurThe HUG has implemented an ethical code of conduct and mandatory training on the prevention of harassment to inform all employees about exemplary behavior to follow and how to react to inappropriate behavior.

Diversity indicators

indicateursImplementation of a system for monitoring indicators on diversity and inclusion within the institution in order to support the achievement of the HUG's strategic objectives. The indicators reflect both the operation of the programme and the distribution of staff in the various professions and hierarchical levels.

Inclusive writing

écriture inclusiveStarting in early 2022, the HUG adopted inclusive writing for all of their institutional communications, both internal and external. An inclusive writing guide for accessible writing for everyone is available to HUG staff. Training sessions are provided in this regard.

Awareness-raising days

journée sensibilisationThe HUG participates in the organisation of awareness-raising events on various international days such as the International Day against LGBTQIA+ phobia, the international Women's Rights Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
