In 2016, the HUG implemented a specialized center to ensure that women with endometriosis receive multidisciplinary care at each step of the disease.

It coordinates all medical disciplines involved to establish the diagnosis, carry out the treatment, and ensure follow-up of patients.
This chronic disease affects women of childbearing age. It manifests primarily as pain and can lead to infertility. One in ten women has it. Endometriosis is characterized by the growth of endometrial cells outside of the uterine cavity.
Some signs can suggest this disease :
- Do you have significant pain in your lower abdomen during your period?
- Do you frequently miss work because of this pain?
- Does it hurt during or after intercourse?
If you are experiencing one or more of these problems, contact the Endometriosis Center at 022 372 44 00.
The team of the Endometriosis Center is trained to:
- listen to women’s concerns and answer their questions
- find the cause of the problem, giving their pain a name
- manage the disease, suggesting individualized monitoring and treatments.
The diagnosis is made after a complete gynecological assessment. This is based on a detailed interview with the doctor, supplemented by clinical and imaging examinations.
Label of excellence The HUG Endometriosis Center is certified by the European Endometriosis League and the Fondation scientifique d’endométriose [Scientific Foundation for Endometriosis].This label guarantees the highest standard of care for women, quality of treatment, and research.
