I have varicose veins, what should I do?
Pregnancy can lead to varicose veins. They are due to increased blood volume, a hormone (progesterone) and uterine weight which prevents good venous return.
They fade after pregnancy.
Practical advice:
- Cold showers from bottom to top
- Legs raised as soon as possible
- Compression stockings
- Avoid wearing tight clothing
- Avoid prolonged bed rest
