Surgical technique to access the abdominal cavity.
The abdomen is inflated with a gas, CO2, introduced through a needle (creating a pneumoperitoneum).
A trocar is inserted through the umbilicus into which an instrument composed of an optical fiber, a video camera and a cold light is inserted.
After exploration of the abdominal cavity, other instruments are inserted through finer trocars introduced through small incisions in the suprapubic area (scissors, forceps, etc.).
