Neuroendocrine tumors on the other hand are rare tumors. They originate in neuroendocrine cells that are present in the endocrine system (a set of glands that produce hormones) and other parts of the body, the digestive system and the respiratory system among others. These tumors can be benign or cancerous. In this case they are neuroendocrine carcinomas: gastrointestinal neuroendocrine carcinoma, pancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma, neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung. Neuroendocrine tumors of the endocrine system originate in the cells of endocrine glands: medullary thyroid carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma and other rare tumors.
