The green spaces and gardens of the HUG are maintained to provide a welcoming and alternative space for interacting outside away from the care setting, both for patients and healthcare teams.

For the patients of Joli-Mont

The Joli-Mont Clinic has 20 beds for people in supportive care, i.e. awaiting placement in an elderly home. In order to offer these patients an enjoyable outdoor activity, the clinic's gardeners organized floral workshops about twice a month from March to November in 2022. In the event of bad weather, alternatives are offered such as making flower pots, bouquets, herbariums and other activities.
These activities are financed by the Private Foundation of the HUG.

For employees

A staff vegetable garden project was launched in 2019. This project is aimed at employees with a hands-on interest in growing vegetables and alternative ways of organic gardening that is both sustainable and respectful of the environment. The aim is to make small plots available for the staff to use. The hospital's professional horticulturists act as trainers, helpers and advisers.

In 2022 the size of the vegetable garden for employees was expanded. By the end of the year participants will be able to give feedback on the practices, surfaces and tools, infrastructure and support available to them in order to improve the project and make it as sustainable and long-lasting as possible.
