The Division offers a postgraduate education program for physicians who wish to specialize in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
Number of positions
- 3 Clinical Training Assistant positions
- 1 Research Assistant position (usually geared towards training in plastic surgery)
- 3 Senior Resident positions for physicians with an FMH specialist title
- 1 Master of advanced studies (MAS) position for physicians from non-European states

Training Program
The program is spread over a four-year period:
- 1styear: The learning objectives are aimed at acquiring knowledge in the basic principles of plastic surgery: wound healing, skin grafts and flaps. From a practical point of view, the surgeon performs numerous skin grafts, tumor excisions, treats complex wounds, decubitus ulcers and burns. He/she assists during more elaborate reconstructive surgery procedures.
- 2nd year: This year provides the opportunity of performing breast surgery and abdominoplasty, as well as participating in all flap surgery (free flaps and musculocutaneous flaps).
- 3rd year: The surgeon may perform all standard plastic surgery operations, whether face or body surgery, eyelids, ears, nose, lips, breast reconstruction, reconstruction of the abdominal wall or that of the lower limbs. Free-flap reconstructions are also performed during the 3rd year.
- 4th year: The aim of this final year of training is to complete the FMH operations catalog, allowing a full integration of the acquired knowledge and surgical expertise.
