New cancer treatments
Within the oncology centre, the research unit funded by the Dr Dubois-Ferrière Dinu Lipatti (DFD) foundation has conducted more than 40 clinical trials to develop new drugs. These studies are intended for people with various tumour diseases including leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, solid tumours such as brain, lung, breast, liver, colon, pancreas, ovary, aesophagus or skin. In five years, over 400 patients have benefited from innovative treatments, each a source of new hope.
The vast majority of treatments currently being evaluated are targeted therapies, i.e. molecules that recognize proteins located on the surface or inside the tumour cells. Another priority area of research concerns cancer vaccination.
Since its creation in 2010, the DFDL unit team has submitted nearly 100 research protocols to Swissmedic, the Swiss authority for the control and authorisation of therapeutic products.
