The HUG Neurodiagnostic and Neurointerventional Division is responsible for diagnostic and invasive neuroradiology actions at HUG. The Division ensures patient care 24/7 in close collaboration with radiology services as well as the services of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience. Through these activities, the Division plays a key role in HUG's involvement in highly specialized medicine for diseases of the central nervous system in general.
The Division consists of two separate units which work closely together.
The Neuroradiology (diagnostic) Unit performs supervision of CT and MRI type neuroradiology examinations. It performs its activities on a technical radiological level in the Diagnostic Department at HUG.
The Interventional Neuroradiology Unit, meanwhile, performs angiographic type examinations on a cerebral and spinal level and minimally invasive procedures on the spine. The Interventional Neuroradiology Unit is also the sponsor for therapeutic procedures such as thrombectomy and thrombolysis for strokes, coiling for aneurysms and embolization of spinal and cerebral arteriovenous malformations.
